Spend the Day by the Water

Is there a better free summer activity than spending the day on the waterfront? Keuka Lake provides an idyllic backdrop for a day of swimming or lounging! At Keuka Lake State Park you’ll find a public beach, a picnic shelter, a boat launch, hiking trails and more. Nearby, Indian Pines Park and Red Jacket Park both provide visitors with grills and picnic tables, pavilions, and swimming areas.

Dresden Beach on the shores of stunning Seneca Lake makes for a fun day out. And if you already own a boat, kayak or paddleboard, take advantage of a free boat launch to get out on the lake for the day.

Explore Local Trails, Parks and Waterfalls

This area has an abundance of local trails and recreation areas for you to enjoy! Whether you are an avid hiker or looking for a leisurely walk, these trails are worth the trip no matter the season.

Discover the diverse habitats and wildlife at the High Tor Wildlife Management Area. It’s an ideal spot for bird watching, nature walks, and immersing yourself in the great outdoors.

Fish, hike, bike, horseback ride, snowmobile or cross-country ski through seven miles of wooded trail at the Keuka Outlet Trail. The Keuka Outlet was created nearly 10,000 years ago and runs between Keuka and Seneca Lake. The trail has scenic views and two waterfalls, Seneca Mills Falls and Cascade Mills Falls—which are located about 1.3 miles apart. There are various parking areas you can utilize whether you want to see both waterfalls or view just one.

Local Tip: Take advantage of the free audio tour that talks about the history of the trail. Visitors can visit the 18 different sites along the trail and listen in any order by scanning a QR code at each site.

Historical Societies & Museums

Venture into the past with a visit to the Dundee Area Historical Society. The museum provides fascinating insights into the region’s history and is great for a rainy day activity. Admission to the historical society is free.

Or, explore three historic buildings at the Yates County History Center and immerse yourself in the county’s rich past. For over 160 years the center has collected and preserved the history of Yates County.

Garrett Memorial Chapel

Perched on a bluff overlooking Keuka Lake, the Garrett Memorial Chapel is an architectural masterpiece worth visiting. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its serene setting and beautiful stained-glass windows make it a peaceful retreat. The grounds are open to the public in the summer and they also host live music on select dates.

Local Art Galleries

The Arts Center of Yates County strives to enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike. The Main Street Gallery features work from more than 150 local and regional artists and the center always has a new exhibit to see. Check out the exhibit schedule to see if there is an Exhibit Reception while you’re in town.

The Rochester Folk Art Guild East Hill Gallery in Middlesex is another great spot to take in local art. The gallery showcases the amazing art produced by this vibrant artist community, living and working in this communal space. Check out unique pieces like furniture, clothing, stoneware, pottery and more.
