Yates County sits at the heart of the Finger Lakes’ most diverse agricultural landscape. The easiest way to experience it is to get off the main road to visit our farms and markets. Drive our countryside and you’ll hit farm stands, quaint country markets, and New York’s first (and still largest) rural market.
What farm markets can I visit in Yates County?
The must-stop is The Windmill Farm & Craft Market, New York State’s first rural market, and still its largest. Beyond the Windmill, our backroads are lined with family-run farm stands and country markets selling produce straight from the field.
What local produce is available, and when?
Yates County grows a genuinely wide range of crops across the seasons. From spring greens to fall apples and everything in between. Fun fact: Yates County is home to Birkett Mills, one of the largest buckwheat manufacturers in the world.

Where can I eat farm-to-table in Yates County?
Plenty of our local restaurants build their menus around what’s grown right here, turning that same local bounty into farm-to-table dishes you won’t find anywhere else.
